Start with the days you have
One day is enough for Jaisalmer Fort, the havelis and Gadisar Lake. Two days lets you add a desert camp night near the dunes. With three or more days you can include Kuldhara, a quieter dune area or a full-day trip to Tanot and Longewala near the border.
Decide how the desert part should feel
Some travellers want a short sunset visit; others want a full night in camp with an evening programme. Knowing which you prefer makes it easier to compare packages and avoids paying for inclusions you will not use.
Check what the quote covers
Ask whether the price includes the vehicle and driver for the full itinerary, fuel, tolls and parking, entry tickets, camp meals and safari rides. A clear written quote on WhatsApp or email prevents surprises on the day.
Border trips need extra planning
Tanot and Longewala make for a long day on the road from Jaisalmer. Carry original photo ID for everyone in the group, start early and check current access rules before you travel, as they can change.
Share the details up front
When you enquire, include your dates, number of travellers and ages, how you are arriving in Jaisalmer and anything you particularly want to see. The more we know, the more useful the first suggestion will be.
Sample plans by trip length
Two days: morning in the fort and havelis, afternoon to the dunes via Kuldhara, a night at camp and sunrise before driving back. Three days: add a slower second day in the city with Gadisar Lake, Bada Bagh and a haveli you missed, or swap it for a quieter dune area such as Khuri. Four or five days: include a full day to Tanot and Longewala, Lodurva's old Jain temples, and time to rest. These are starting points; we tailor them to your group.
Families, couples and groups
Families often prefer shorter drives, earlier dinners and camps with attached bathrooms. Couples may want a quieter camp and time for sunset photographs. Groups need vehicles that keep everyone together and itineraries with fewer long transfers. Solo travellers can join shared plans where available or book a private car. Tell us who is travelling so we can shape the package around them.
How the season affects your plan
From October to March, days are comfortable and you can spend more time outdoors, but this is also when camps and cars are most in demand, especially around Christmas, New Year and the Desert Festival. From April to June, plan outdoor activities for early morning and evening and use the middle of the day to rest. The monsoon months are quieter, with occasional rain. Season affects both availability and cost, so plan early for peak dates.
Warning signs in a quote
Be cautious of quotes that do not name the vehicle category, leave camp details vague, or say "all inclusive" without listing what that means. Ask whether tolls, parking and driver allowances are included, whether meals are part of the camp stay, and what happens if plans change. A clear, itemised quote protects both you and the operator. Ours are sent in writing so you can check them at your own pace.
Pairing Jaisalmer with other cities
Jaisalmer sits at the western edge of Rajasthan, so it is usually combined with Jodhpur, about 285 km away, or Bikaner, about 330 km away. Some travellers arrive by train from Jaipur or Delhi and leave by road toward Jodhpur and Udaipur. If Jaisalmer is part of a longer trip, tell us your full route and we can include the onward drive in your package.
Private versus shared arrangements
A private package gives you your own vehicle and driver and a schedule built around you. It costs more but offers flexibility and privacy. Shared arrangements, where available, can be cheaper but follow a fixed schedule and group size. For families, couples who value privacy and anyone with specific needs, a private plan is usually the better choice. Tell us your priorities and we will suggest the right approach.
Hotel nights: included or separate?
Some travellers prefer to book their own hotel in Jaisalmer and ask us only for transport, camps and safaris. Others want everything arranged in one place. Both work. If you have already booked a hotel, share its name and location so we can plan pickups. If you want us to suggest options, tell us your budget and whether you prefer to stay near the fort or somewhere quieter.
How far in advance to book
For travel between November and February, and around Christmas, New Year, Diwali and the Desert Festival, booking a few weeks ahead gives the best choice of camps and vehicles. Outside peak season, shorter notice is often fine. If you are already in Jaisalmer, message us and we will tell you what is available.
Balancing sightseeing and rest
It is tempting to fit everything in, but Jaisalmer is hot for much of the year and the drives to the dunes and the border are long. A good package leaves time for a midday rest, an unhurried meal and an early night before a long day. If you find yourself packing too much into each day, consider adding a night instead.
Making your final decision
Once you have a quote, read it carefully. Check that the days, stops, vehicle, camp details and inclusions match what you discussed. Ask about anything unclear before confirming. A well-planned package should leave you feeling informed and relaxed about the trip ahead, not uncertain about what happens next.
A worked example
Imagine a family of four, two adults and two children aged eight and eleven, arriving by overnight train from Delhi with three days in Jaisalmer. A good plan might be: day one, pickup from the station, rest at the hotel, then the fort and havelis in the late afternoon. Day two, a slow morning, Gadisar Lake, lunch, then the drive to Sam via Kuldhara, a short camel ride, sunset and a camp night. Day three, sunrise, breakfast and return, with the afternoon free before the evening train. Each day includes rest time, and no single drive is too long for the children.
When to choose a longer package
A longer package makes sense if you are interested in history, want to see the border region, travel slowly, or are combining Jaisalmer with a rest after a busy trip elsewhere in India. It also gives you a buffer if trains are delayed or the weather is poor on one day. If you are unsure, start with a shorter plan and ask whether a day can be added later; outside peak season, this is often possible.
How to ask for changes
When you receive a quote, reply with any changes you want in a single message: dates, number of people, stops to add or remove, vehicle size and camp preferences. We will send a revised quote reflecting all of them. Repeat as often as needed until the plan feels right.
Understanding what "flexible" means
Many packages are described as flexible. In practice, flexibility means the timings, stops and order of the day can be adjusted within the agreed duration and vehicle hours, without changing the price. Larger changes, such as adding a day, a new destination or a camp night, usually affect the quote. Ask where the line falls before you book, so you know what you can change on the day and what needs to be agreed in advance.
Travelling with older relatives
Older travellers may find the fort's steep approach, soft sand on the dunes and long drives tiring. A good package for them includes shorter sightseeing sessions, more rest, a camp with easy access and an attached bathroom, and the option to watch sunset from a vehicle-accessible point rather than riding. Tell us about any health or mobility needs and we will plan accordingly.
After you book
Once you confirm, we send the final details: the itinerary, pickup times, vehicle and driver contact, camp confirmation and anything you need to bring. A day or two before arrival, we check in to confirm your travel details. During the trip, you can reach us by phone or WhatsApp if anything needs to change.
Summary
Choosing a Jaisalmer tour package comes down to three questions: how many days you have, how you want to experience the desert, and what you need included. Answer those, share them with us, and we will suggest a plan that fits. You can then adjust it until it feels right before confirming.
